Sympathy

Good morning.  Well the sun has returned to Oxfordshire, which will please lots of people I'm sure.  However I found yesterday quite difficult.  I was helping John to cut the leylandii hedge and boy was that hot!  I can't cope with the the heat at the best of times so having to work outside in it .....  but I was brave and soldiered on but I kept going inside for breaks and drank lots of water.

Well we have had a bad couple of weeks unfortunately. They do say that bad news comes in threes and it has certainly proved true.  It started with our very close call when we were hit by a lorry on the motorway.  A couple of days later a dear friend of mine died very suddenly of a heart attack so we are off to Cardiff for his funeral very early on Monday morning. And to top it off John's oldest and dearest  friend died a couple of days ago and this has knocked him for six. This funeral will be in Congleton, Cheshire so we are certainly having to travel around. Hopefully that is the end of it all!

This is the card I made for my friend's wife and I will show the other one in a couple of days.

My Card

Recipe
5" x 7" base card - made from Linen card stock from Hobbycraft
grey pearlescent card stock - Jelly Bean
Prim Poppy die - Memory Box
Sentiment - computer generated

I wanted something fairly subdued and simple and this is what I came up with. I thought it would be too stark using black font so I used grey.  Otherwise it is a very simple card.

Well that's it from me.  Unfortunately more hedge cutting today I'm afraid!

Take care.

Baubles For Christmas Card Club

Good morning.  I am a couple of days late with my Christmas Card Club entry this week, and usually I am a day early.  My excuse, well it's a reason not an excuse, is that my nephew and his children were here for five days and I did no crafting while they were here.  But we did have a super time.

This time Margaret has asked us to use baubles on our cards - very Christmas-y.

My Cards

Recipe
5 x 7" base card
green card stock from stash
Frosty Swirls embossing folder - Creative Expressions
Noble Double Pierced Rectangles - Creative Expressions
Baubles image - LOTV
Sentiment stamp - not sure which company

Recipe
5 x 7" base card
red and silver card from stash
Snowflake Lattice embossing folder - Creative Expressions
Precious Ornaments dies - Memory Box
Baubles brass stencil - Sweet Poppy
sentiment - computer generated
red gems - Hobbycraft

Both cards very easy to put together. I hadn't planned on two cards but after making the first one I found the silver glittered stencils in my snippets box already mounted on silver mirri so I decided to have a go at another card.  Not a roaring success but not too bad.

Hope all is well with you. Take care.

A Bag or Box for OSAAT

Good morning to you all.  This post is scheduled because we have family staying with us this week. Hopefully it will appear at the right time.  If I get chance I will check later in the day to be sure. Today it is Challenge # 268 at OSAAT and we would love you to join us.

My Project

Recipe
Double sided cardstock - Crafters Companion
Image  Poppy - Stitchy Stamps
Classic Oval Large dies - Spellbinders
Oval Bliss die - Spellbinders
Ribbon - local haberdashery store

I used my We R Memory Keepers Bag Punch Board to make the bag. I had to make some adjustments because my cardstock was too big but I wanted a very large bag.  I also folded back the top to give a nice effect.  The image is actually black and white but I altered it digitally to brown and printed it on sand coloured card stock so everything would marry together, and I really like the effect.

Please pop over to the blog and see the creations of my teamies and this is the prize you could win if you care to join us.

Hope everybody is well.  Take care.

Back To School for MAWTT

Good morning.  The sun is shining this morning but it is a little chilly outside at the moment.  Still, it's early so time to brighten up.

Amy has chosen the theme "Back To School" for our challenge this time at MAWTT.  My geat nephew left his beloved village school a couple of weeks ago and he was a little sad, so this card is for him.

My Card

Recipe
6" shaped card - Craftwork Cards
Spotty paper - First Edition
Orange card - Bazill Basics
Image - "Wise Owl" Robyn's Fetish
Lacy Circles - Spellbinders

I don't like orange but every now and again I force myself to make a card with it.  Maybe one day I will have a change of heart!

I had a fabulous day yesterday.  We had a trip out with the WI.  First we drove to Evesham on a vintage coach (built in 1947) and then had afternoon tea whilst cruising along the river. We then returned to Pimms in the garden of one of our members.  A really great day and a chance to dress up so I got the opportunity to wear my wedding outfit which I wasn't able to do last Saturday.  Here are a few pictures.  I am  the one wearing black and ivory to the right of the lady in the red jacket. A bit picture heavy I'm afraid.

Well that's it from me.  Take care and have a good day.

Wedding Shadow Box

Good morning.  Hope this finds you all well.  The weather has cooled down a little now so I'm feeling a bit happier - and more comfortable! I bought some of the accessories to this main die when they were first released and then decided to actually buy the shadow box itself.  Before I got round to using it Sue Wilson did a video on YouTube so I thought "Why re-invent the wheel?"  I couldn't improve on the maestro  but if you have seen the video you will see how I have almost copied the card but some details are different.   I have not used so many layers, different size, not all the same dies, and of course I added a bow. And I used the colours that the bride used on her wedding invitations rather than silver.  Of course it helps that it's my favourite colour too!

My Card

the inside of the card

Recipe
8" square card cut down to size
Shadow box collection - Creative Expressions
Shadow box accessory :  "Mr& Mrs"
Shadow box accessory : "Stacked Love"
Pierced Noble rectangles - Creative Expressions
Dainty Dots e/f - Spellbinders
Glitter film - Little Claire
Sentiment - computer generated.
Organza Ribbon - local haberdashery shop
Silver wedding rings - Paper Cellar

I found the hardest part was working out how to get the wedding rings into the double bow as I was tying it.  Anyway, I did it! And I'm pleased with how it all turned out.  For the sparkly layer Sue added glitter to adhesive paper.  I actually just added glitter film to the lilac card stock before I die cut the rectangle frame. Just as pretty and effective and the added benefit of being a perfect match - and no mess. The sentiment/quote is one I found on the internet and I liked it better than using a verse.

Well that's all from me today.  The wedding is on Saturday so I will tell you how things went when I post next week.  And I'll find out whether I was miles out with the colour and that she just used this to put everybody off the scent ... lol!

Update  I still can't tell you the colours at the wedding because we didn't actually get there! We were sideswiped by a lorry on the motorway on the way up.  Fortunately, apart from being very badly shaken neither of us was hurt, but couldn't continue.  Very sad to miss my niece's big day - and not get to wear my new outfit!! Now it's the long job of sorting out the insurance on my car!  What fun that will be.
